The deity of this nakshatra is Indra and ruling lord is Mercury. Jyeshtha nakshatra means getting bigger or older. The colour of the star is red in this nakshatra. Jyeshtha nakshatra is considered as the highest nakshatra. According to some ancient experts, since this nakshatra is bigger and more important that is why it is called as Jyeshtha. Some experts believe it to be the earring of Aadi Shakti.
