Ten Mahavidyas - Ten Mahavidya Sadhana - Shakti Puja
Ten Mahavidyas are considered to be the manifestations of Goddess Durga. Each manifestation eradicates the problems of human being on earth in its own unique way. All the ten mahavidyas have special significance in activities related to occult, tantra and sadhana. They are as follows:
Goddess Kali is one of the manifestation among ten mahavidyas. She is another form of shakti. It is believed that goddess durga incarnated as goddess Kali for the destruction of devils and to protect and establish dharma in the world. She is worshipped all around the country. Though Devi Kali’s appearance is dark and terrifying but she ends all fears of her devotees. Goddess Kali has appeared in a lot of different incarnations to free this world from all problems and sins. She helps in the development of this whole world. Goddess Kali is related to Kaal or Time. She has been considered to be associated with Tantra sadhana and Tantriks also worship her. She is known as Bhavatarni who takes care of the whole universe.
Goddess Tara
Out of all the ten mahavidyas, Goddess Tara is worshipped by tantriks to get fruitful of their Tantra sadhana. She is considered to be the goddess of adi shakti. Goddess Tara tends to appear to help her devotees, when a person loses hope and is not able to see any way out of his problems When a person is not able to see any way out of his problems. Ugra tara, Neel Saraswati and Ekajata are the manifestations of devi Tara only. She is considered to be the destructor of demons and giver of prosperity and salvation. She is creator of universe. It is believed that the universe is created on the basis of zero and goddess Tara resides in the zero itself. She is the idol of prosperity and beauty who decides the time salvation of each creature on earth.
Goddess Lalita
Goddess Lalita has a very bright and radiant appearance. According to Kalika Purana, the goddess has two arms and fair complexion. She sits on a lotus. Prosperity is derived from the worship of Goddess Lalita. As per the the tradition of south India, goddess lalita has been assigned the position of Chandi, the who is destructive.
Lalitopakhyana, Lalita Sahasranama, Lalita Trishati path are recited for her worshipping. She is known as one of the incarnation of goddess Durga.
Goddess Bhuvaneshwari
Goddess Bhuvaneswari is one of the Ten Mahavidyas and is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti. She is the ruler and the goddess of universe. Gayatri worship is implicit in the sense of goddess Bhuvaneshwari. Goddess Bhuvaneshwari is depicted as having one face and four hands, two of which bless the devotees while the other two holds the noose and angusham. It is believed that the ultimate god is Bhuvaneshwari. She has a wheatish complexion and her fingernail represents the entire universe. She carries a red golden radiance similar to that of a Sun. A person who chants goddess Bhuvaneswari’s mantras is blessed with good results.
The beej mantra is considered to be very powerful and giver of wishes. Chanting her mool mantra and panchakshari mantra blesses a person with all kind of worldly pleasures in life.
Tripura Bhairavi
She is the goddess of tantra sadhana and the most terrifying manifestation of goddess Durga.
Goddess Bhairavi appears in other 13 different forms. She is mother of spiritual seeker. Goddess Bhairavi can be seen wearing a skull garland in her neck. Her right hands gesture abhaya mudra and vara mudra which blesses the devotees. She wears red coloured clothes, holding a book in one hand. Devotees should use red cloth while worshipping the goddess
Goddess Chinnamastika
Chhinnamastika Mata is considered to be the sixth manifestation out of the ten mahavidyas. She is also worshiped as goddess Chintapurni. This form of goddess is described in detail in various hindu scriptures such as Markandeya Purana and Shiva Purana. According to the scriptures, Ma Chandi incarnated as goddess Chinnamastika to kill the demons. She was praised in all the three worlds for destroying the demons. But, the thirst for blood of her helpers was not satisfied. At that time goddess Chinnamastika chopped her head and served them to satisfy their thirst. Since then she is known by the name of Chinnamastika.
Dhumavati
Dhumavati is the goddess with terrifying appearance. She is associated with mortality, death and everything that is inauspicious. Despite of her scary looks,. she always blessed the devotees and fulfilled their wishes. Dhumavati is the combined power of Saint Durvasa, Bhrigu and Parshuram. Due to her involvement in the conflicts related to the creation of universe, she is also known as Kalahpriya. Chaumasa is an auspicious and prime time to worship the goddess. She gives relief from all kinds of suffering and trouble of life.
Goddess Baglamukhi
Goddess Bagalamukhi is the eighth Mahavidya out of ten Mahavidyas. She is the goddess of immense power and is worshipped to attain victory over enemies, arguments etc. Goddess Bagalamukhi is also known as Pitambara. Yellow coloured materials are used for her puja as she is fond of yellow colour. Goddess Bagalamukhi has a yellow complexion like a gold and thus a person should wear yellow coloured clothes while worshipping her. Goddess Bagalamukhi relieves a person from the enemies and negative energies. Goddess Bagalamukhi can be seen riding a beautiful chariot embedded with gemstones and destroys enemies.
Goddess Matangi
Goddess Matangi is the ninth manifestation of ten mahavidyas. She is the goddess of speech and music. She carries the power of entire universe. The goddess blesses her devotees with blissful and prosperous married life. Worshipping her brings harmony and cordiality at home.
She gives relief from all kind of fears. She is also known as Ucchishta Chandalini and Pishachini. She is also worshipped in other forms: Ucchishta Chandalini, Rajamathangi, Sumukhi, Vaishya Matangi, Karna Mangi etc. She is the goddess of south and west.
Goddess Kamla
Goddess Kamla has a golden skin and is seated on a beautiful lotus. She is accompanied by two huge elephants who pour jars of nectar on her. Goddess Kamla is giver of wealth and happiness. By worshipping her one can attain immense wealth and wisdom. She is goddess of fortune and those who want to attain all kind of worldly pleasures must worship her.
