Chitrakut Dham – Importance of Chitrakut Dham

Lord Ram performed Pind Dan rituals of his father, Dashratha, at Chitrakut Dham. Since that time, this place has earned significance. It is located 32 km away from Allahabad in East direction. it is believed that in AdiKaal, lord Brahma himself established the idols of this place.

This place was used as a point for meditation by Rishi and Muni since ancient days. Temple of this place contains 4 idols of lord Shiva. Two famous rivers, Mandakini and Pasawani flow from here. lord Ra offered water at the junction of these two river during Tarpan of his father.It is believed that Rishi Valmiki wrote the great text ‘Ramayan’ in this Ashram.

It is not just a Dham but a spiritual place. Ram Ghat is one of these spiritual place which is very famous. Sidhishram temple is located 6 km away from Ramghat. This is Shiva temple. Many Rishi and Muni performed meditation for the vision of lord Ram in this temple. Pleased by the meditation, lord Ram appeared for his devotees. Apart fom this, there are many other spiritual places. Out of which agni, Varun, surya Chandra and Vayu are the famous pilgrims.

Maharishi Valmiki created Ramayan in Sanskrit language. Hence, to save the existence of Sanskrit language, a Sanskrit school is opened here. Other religious places of Chitrakut Dham are :-

Sita Mata Rasoi

Sita Mata Rasoi is situated on Vindhya hills in a place called Hanuman Dhara. It is believed, Mata Janaki arranged food for lord Ram and Lakshmana at this place. Since then, the place is known as Sita Mata Rasoi.

Hanuman Dhara

There are many spiritual places located at Chitrakut Dham. One of these places is the Hanuman Dhara. It is believed that after burning Lanka, lord Hanuman jumped into the sea for cooling down the fire on his tale. As the fire did not went down, lord Ram asked him to go at Chitrakut Ghat and make his tale dip in the continuously flowing water of the Ghat. since then, the place is known as Hanuman Dhara.

Ram Ghat

The Ghat situated in the middle of all the Ghats on the western bank of river Mandakini is called Ram Ghat. Its name is related to the event of Goswami applying sandalwood to the forehead of lord Ram. Goswami had the vision of lord Ram on this Ghat through the inspiration gained from lord Hanumana. This is very clear in the verse said by lord hanuman :

Chitrkut K Ghat Par, Bhi Santan Ki Bhir |

Tulsidas Chandan Ghise, Tilak Det Raghuvir ||

This verse was said by parot faced Hanuman, hence an idol of lord Hanuman having parot face is found at this place. Secondly it earned fame through a verse said by lord Ram in Ram Charitra Manas.
