Rudranath Temple – Importance of Rudranath Temple

Rudranath is of the Panch Kedar temple. Different body parts of lord Shiva are worshipped in the temples of Panch Kedar. This place is situated at a great height. Hence, it is adorned with natural beauty. Here, face of lord Shiva is worshipped. Other body parts of lord Shiva are worshipped at Pashupati Nath temple which is situated at Kathmandu. From here, one can view the Nanda Devi temple.

The peaks covered with snow, infornt of temple also increases the scenic beauty of this place. Gopeshwar temple is located near it. Here, there is a Trishul of iron. People specially come to this place for seeing the Trishul. It is tough to climb up the height of this temple in a single day. So, night stay is must.

There is place named Pitra Dhar, on the way. This place has the temple of Shiva, Parvati and Narayana. People keep stone at this place, for the peace of ancestors. The 4th Kedar, i.e.  Rudranath, of Panch Kedar has a rare idol of lord Shiva in the natural cave of temple. here, lord Shiva has a tilted neck. It is believed that the idol appeared by itself. No one knows its depth. Idol of lord Vishnu is worshiped in the nearby Vaitarni Kund.

Temple has statues of Pandavs along with Kunti and Drupadi and smalle temple on the other hand. Before visiting the temple, devotees take bath in the Narad Kund and remove there tiredness. Gates of Rudranath pen and close according to the tradition. For 6months in winters, seat of Rudranath is moved to Gopeshwar of Gopinath temple. Rudranath is worshipped here for these 6 months.

Here is a small village named Ansuiya which has a great temple. It is believed that while Atri Muni was performing meditation at near by place then his wife Ansuiya observed the act of faithful wife and stayed at this place. When the glory of Ansuiya was spread in all the three Lok then Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati forced Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma to test Ansuiya’s faithfulness.

According to the story, the Tridev and Devi reached her home and asked for food. But they wanted Ansuiya to make them sit on her lap, hug them and not wear any clothes. Ansuiya became doubtful.

She closed her eyes and remembered her husband. Then she saw, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh in form of saints. Ansuiya kept thinking of her husband and the Tridev changed to 6 months old babies. Then, she made them had food according to their conditions. This way, Tridev enjoyed the childhood.

On the other side, the 3 Goddesses requested Ansuiya to bring there husbands back into their original form. By the power of her faithfulness, she brought back the 3 gods to in their original form. Then she became famous with the name of Maa Ansuiya. Temple has a huge statue of Ansuiya which has a parasol of silver. the premises of temple have idols of shiva, Parvati, Bhairav, Ganesha and God of forests.

Idol of Ansuiya’s son, Datatre, is established near this temple. In every December, a fair is organised on the occasion of Dattatre Jayanti at this place. the 5 different forms of Shivaling give it the name of Panch Kedar.

Panch Kedar Story

According to scriptures, lord Shiva is worshipped as Shivlinga is worshipped in Kedarnath, shoulders in Tunganath, face in Rudranath, naval in Madhya Maheshwar and hair in Kalpeshwaram. at the entrance door of Kedarnath, live idol of river is placed.

Rudranath temple is located between the rivers Mandakini and Alaknanda. Shivlinga is situated in the interior of temple on which water drops are continuously flowing. Panch Kedar is the most attractive place. The top of temple is decorated with an urn of gold. On the back side are the idols of Har Gauri. The small temple contains the idol of Goddess Parvati.
