Festival in the Month of Ashwin : Ashvin Sankranti 2013, 16 Sept
Sun will enter Virgo sign during Ashwini Sankranti. Ashwini Sankranti will begin on 16th September 2013, Monday, Dwadashi Tithi at 12:03 at night. Dhanishta Nakshatra will be in Gemini Ascendant. The auspicious period will stay till 06:27 in the morning.
Due to the inauspicious name of the Sankranti, the time may be profitable for wicked people. This Sankranti may not be considered auspicious.
Indira Ekadashi Fast, 30 September 2013
Ekadashi Date will not be in the Ashwin Krishna Paksha of the year 2013, due to which on 30 September, Indira Ekadashi fast may be observed according to the Smart Mat and on 24th September this fast may be observed according to the Vaishnava Mat.
Ashwin Shukla Paksha: 5th October
Ahwin-Sharad Navratras will begin from the Pratipada of Ashwin Shukla Paksha.The first fast of Navratra will be in Pratapada date. In Pratipada, after taking bath and doing meditation, the seeds of Barley and the seven paddies should be sowed in the earthen pots. Then the flowers and Akshat is poured infront of the temple of the house and Pinnacle is established as per the tradition. After this, flame is burnt and Durga is worshipped along with Shodshopchar.
“Om Jayanti Mangala Kali Bhadra Kali Kapalini Durga Kshama Shivadhatri Swaha Swadha Namostute”.
After the Pooja, the Durga Saptasati Path should be chanted resolutely as per the tradition till Navami Navaratra.

In 2013, Sharada Navaratra will end on 13 October in Navami date.
Vijaya Dashami (Dushehra): October 13/14, 2013
After worshipping Ram on this day, the idol of the symbol of anger and arrogance, Ravan is burnt in the evening. Vijayadashmi is also called Dushehra. There is an ancient belief that on this day Lord Shri Ram defeated Ravan and freed Sita from Lanka. The festival of Vijayadashami is celebrated as a victory of truth over lie, Gods on demons and justice on injustice.
Papamkusha Ekadashi: 15 October 2013
Observing fast on this day frees the person from his sins committed by him in mistake and also reduces this habit. The Ekadashi of Ashwin Shukla Paksha is called Papamkusha Ekadashi. In this Ekadashi Lord Vishnu is worshipped.
Ashwin-Sharad Poornima: 18th October, 2013
On Ashwin Poornima, fast is observed and Lord Laxmi Narayan is worshipped. In the night Kheer is cooked with almonds and raisins and is kept in the moonlight. Next day it is offered to God as sacraments and then the Brahmans are fed. After this it is consumed by self along with all family members. The Kartik Bath begins on this day.
Karwa Chauth Fast: 22 October 2013
The married women observes Shri Karak Chaturthi or Karwa Chauth fast for the happiness and long life of their husband. The practise of this fast is gaining popularity but now instead of faith, the basis of this fast has just become a way to show your love.
