This fast is observed from Ashwin Shukla Paksha Pratipada to Navami. On Pratipada, bath is taken in the morning and then resolution is taken. In the year 2022 , this fast will begin on 7th October and will end on 14th October. After fast resolution, an earthen Vedi is made and Barley is sown on it. This is done either by a priest or personally. The Kalash is then established on this Vedi. The image of family Goddess is placed on the Kalash and then worshipped. The Durga Saptshati Paath is also chanted. During Paath and the Lamp should remain burning. The Vaishnava people establish idol of Lord Ram and worship him along with chanting the Paath. At some places Ramlilas are also performed during Navratri.

Navratra - Worshiping Nine Forms of the Goddess

Navratra comes twice every year. First Navratra starts on Pratipada of Chaitra Shukla Paksha and ends on Chaitra Shukla Paksha Navami. The next Navratra is called Shardiye Navratra This Navratra begins on Ashwin Shukla Paksha Pratipada date to Navami date. Goddess is worshipped in both the Navratras. The Pooja method is almost same in both the Navratras.

Dushehra is celebrated immediately after Navratra of Ashwin Shukla Paksha. Navratri and Dushehra is celebrated every year with zeal and faith. These festivals have both religious and spiritual importance. In Navratri, the nine forms of Mata is worshipped and thus is called Navratri.

Navratra Poojan Beginning Method

In Navratra of Chaitra masa as well as Shardiye navratra, Kalash is established on Pratipada date. Before establishing the Kalash, Navratra resolution is taken. According to a belief, the Kalash is considered as a double form of Lord Ganesha, deu to which, Kalash is worshipped first of all.

Before establishing the Kalash, the place is purified by spraying Ganga jal on it. Cow-dung is also used for land purification. Oceans, rivers, the nine planets, Dishapalaks, directions, village Gods and all others are invited in the worship. The Kalash is decorated with five different type of leaves.
