According to astrology, the fifth house of horoscope is called the house of education. Starting education from 26th date makes a person successful in fields of education. Mata Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom and knowledge. Her blessings bring consciousness in the life and our increased wisdom helps us in achieving wealth.


On this day, Pinnacle (Kalash) is established first and then Goddess Sharda (Saraswati) is worshipped. Then Ganesh ji is worshipped as he is the first to be worshipped before all the Gods. In the Scriptures, Mother is called by : of Shuklavarn, prevalent in the livings as well as non-living beings of the universe, Aadi-Shakti, Idea of Lord Brahma and philosophiser of all ideas. Birthday Celebration of Mother Saraswati

An ancient story is famous about Basant Panchami. After creating the universe, the living beings and the humans but it there was something lacking in it. Everything was quiet. Then Lord Brahma took out water from his Kamandal(Reliquary) and the moment the the drops of water fell on the earth, it started quivering and a great power took birth. A beautiful woman with four hands appeared. She had Veena in one hand, one hand was in blessing position, one having books and the other having a crystal garlands. On request of Lord Brahma, the Goddess played her Veena and sweet music came out of it.


All the things on earth got voice. Even the water started flowing with humming sound. The wind got the murmuring sound. This made God Brahma happy and he called her with different names like : Vagishwari, Bhagawati, Sharda, Veenavaadini, and Vagdevi. From this day, the celebration of worshipping Goddess Saraswati started. According to scriptures, Lord Brahma blessed Shri Krishna that he will be worshipped on the day of Basant Panchami.


Why is Godess Saraswati called "The Mother of Wisdom"?

Saraswati was born on the fifth date of Basant and due to this, Basant Panchami is also known as the day of education. All the educational institutes throughout the country celebrate this occasion with utmost zeal. The Mother is worshipped and thanked on this day. Worshipping Mother Saraswati makes the person wise and intelligent. The book in the hands of the Goddess Saraswati depicts her of being the Lord of education. Since ancient times, our country has been the country of wisdom and knowledge. Physique and intelligence are given much importance here.


We celebrate Basant Panchami with a faith that no one remains devoid of education and wisdom. Development of education makes the Goddess happy. The Goddess blesses her devotees to become humans from animals, knowledgeable from ignorant, from impatient to patience. The blessings of the Mother can be achieved by meditation, sacrifice and study.


Bowing head infront of Maa Sharda means to understand the importance of education. In India, it has always been told to worship teachers before Gods. Even the hermits and the poets have told to worship teachers before god as he is the person who has shown us the path of devotion. This is the reason, India has been given the name of Jagatguru i.e., the teacher of universe.


Basant Panchami : The Auspicious Muhurta to Start Education

Basant Panchami is celebrated as the birth day of Mata Saraswati, Goddess of learning. This day is also known as the Abujh Muhurat (most auspicious day). On this day, starting of education is considered favorable. There is no need to apply any more rules of Muhurat to perform this Sanskar. Probably, because of this reason Rishis started the custom of Saraswati Puja, on the day of Basant Panchami. Goddess Sharda is also called the mother of art and music, apart form knowledge and learning. Before beginning any art or music, Goddess Saraswati is being worshipped. Students who work hard and worship Maa Saraswati, gain name and fame in their lives.
