Brihat Parashara

Most of the important concepts of Vedic astrology are based on Parashari astrology. Parashari astrology is based on the beliefs and principles of an astrologer known as Saint Parashar. This is the reason why astrology of the Vedic age has been named after Saint Parashar. Parashari astrology’s era is believed to be from 3000 BC to 57 BC.

Saint Parashar wrote the epic Brihat Parashara Hora. Among the epics of astrology of ancient times, Brihat Parashara Hora is considered to be more famous. Brihat Parashara Hora consists of 100 chapters associated with astrology. In this epic, a detailed description of auspicious and inauspicious impact of planets has been given. It has also been explained how planets affect human lives in different ways.

Brihat Parashara Hora - Description

Brihat Parashara Hora provides many details on various aspects of Vedic astrology including the description of signs, planets, the impact of 12 signs on 12 ascendants, sixteenth Varga, the aspects of planets, Arishta and cancellation of Arishta, 12 houses, karkas, karankanshas, ascendant Yoga, prediction of age, Upagrahas, various dashas, body language, Ashtak Varga and the remedies for the pacification of planets.

Experts believe that Brihat Parashara astrology is the most precious book in Kalyuga that explains almost every aspect of Vedic astrology. However, Saint Parashar’s date is not available in history.

As mentioned earlier, Brihat Parashara Hora was created by Saint Parashar. It was written in the form of a question and answer session between Saint Parashar and his follower, Maitreya. It is believed that Brihat Parashara Hora is almost 5000 years old.

Most people who are inclined towards astrology begin their studies with Brihat Parashara Hora. However, this epic classic was not originally created in written form. Most of the Vedic literature was originally created in the form of hymns so that people from various generations could understand them easily.

This amazing text consists of ten important topics including the description of Grahas, Bhavas, Vargas and Rasis, precise techniques such as Ishta, Kashta, Subha and Ashubha timings, etc.

Also included are the “Avasthas” meaning conditions necessary for accurate predictions, Yogas which may include the karmas of our previous existence, Auspicious timings, etc. Although there is no rigid proof that this entire astrological thesis was prepared by this eminent scholar, all by himself, its influence has been beneficial to billions of people in the world.
