The first date of Lunar month is called Pratipada. A Lunar month has 30 dates and there are two Paksha in Lunar month, one is Shukla Paksha and the other is Krishna Paksha. There are fourteen dates in each Paksha. Every first date of each Paksha is Pratipada and in Hindu Panchanga ,the first date.

How is Pratipada Calculated

The Moon starts towards completion from Pratipada of Shukla Paksha. The difference of Moon from Sun is 0 to 12 Degrees. This12 degrees difference constitutes one Tithi which is known as Pratipada of Shukla Paksha.The other Pratipada in Krishna Paksha is from 180 degrees to 192 degrees.

Agni Deva has been considered deity of Pratipada Tithi/ Pratipada is placed in Nanda Tithi. A native born on Pratipada must worship Agni Deva as it will benefit the native.
